The Women of Chicago Empowerment Network (WCEN) is an initiative that brings together women of Chicago who hail from diverse backgrounds to discuss strategies and develop program activities that will increase the financial knowledge, capacity, and security of women across Chicago. Members are dedicated to locating and implementing solutions that will support and empower all women working to overcome the Racial Wealth Divide of Chicago’s households of color in liquid asset poverty. As well as the Women’s Income & Wealth Gap that perpetuates inequality and traps lower-income white women, women of color, and their families in a cycle of debt that undermines their capacity to achieve economic security and build generational wealth.
During the month of March, WCEN will be hosting a month-long celebration to address the ever-increasing Racial Wealth Divide that leaves 65% of Chicago’s households of color in liquid asset poverty.
