Over 134,000 people are listed on the Chicago Police Department’s gang database. 95% of them are Black or Latinx.
The Office of the Inspector General has called the gang database “incomplete and contradictory, ” and “lacks transparency.” Yet CPD continues to share its files with 500 other external agencies and federal law enforcement–which can affect housing, employment, parole, and immigration rulings.
Students, teachers, and community members are invited to a special STRIKE SCHOOL on what the database is, how to find out if you’re on it, and how to support current legislation in City Council to abolish it.
Hosted by Erase the Database campaign and United Working Families.
