Northwestern College Republicans are hosting Jeff Sessions on campus as their fall speaker. Sessions, the former attorney general, is a racist, homophobic, transphobic, islamophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic, corrupt white supremacist & bigot and we must make sure it’s known that his views are not welcome here.
Sessions is set to speak on “The Real Meaning of the Trump Agenda.” Here’s the thing: we don’t need him to tell us the real meaning. We already know the meaning of the Trump Agenda — bigotry and suppression of basic civil rights. Sessions’ record is abhorrent, but it’s just a tiny piece of the hatred that underlies the entire Trump Administration.
Each and every politician and official that covers for Donald Trump furthers his horrific agenda. It’s not enough to just speak on our disdain for their records, but to show them who we really are — and who we really support — through our actions.
This event is a two-hour non-partisan demonstration with speakers and political organizations committed to increasing youth civic engagement locally and nationally. We’ll be disseminating voter registration information at the event, and we’re inviting campaign representatives — local, state, and national — to set up tables at the rally to encourage students to sign up to make an active difference for the elections they care about (which, we’re hoping, is all of them!)
Never been political before? Never been involved with a campaign, never been to a protest, never voted in your life, don’t know who Jeff Sessions is? No problem. This is your chance to start. This movement is only successful when it includes each and every one of us.
This is about so much more than just Jeff Sessions. This is not about a single politician or a single protest. This is about creating a widespread movement to mobilize Americans across the country to show Donald Trump and his cronies who we really are and what we really stand for. This is a national movement to disavow the discriminatory rhetoric and policies that this President has pushed since the beginning of his campaign. We hope you’ll join us.
Due to the number of expected attendees, we’re now hosting the event at the Music Administration Parking Lot at 711 Elgin Rd, Evanston, IL 60208. This lot is just beside Lutkin Hall, but allows us space to truly make this night ours.
