On June 12th, 2018, student activists across the nation will go to Washington, D.C. to participate in a National Die-In to honor all of the lives lost in the two year period since the Pulse Nightclub shooting that occurred on June 12th, 2016 in Orlando, Florida. The Die-In held in Chicago will be a sister march of the D.C. one; however, the message stays the same. We are here to honor the lives lost due to senseless gun violence, and we are here to fight for common sense gun laws in order to put an end to the constant bloodshed. The Die-In will begin promptly at 12pm in front of the Trump International Hotel and Tower, where we will lay on the ground for 12 minutes, or 720 seconds. Each second represents the approximate number of people who have died in a mass shooting since the Pulse Nightclub Massacre. Our bodies will symbolize the tangible effects that lethal legislative inaction has on its citizens. We have chosen the location for our Die-In to be the outside of the Trump Tower because although the President has stated that he will work to fix the gun violence problem in America, he has yet to act on his words. He is also a recipient of millions of dollars from the NRA, and that is simply unacceptable.
After the Die-In in front of Trump Tower, we will walk to the Federal Plaza and host a rally with student speakers and provide event-goers with more ways to help beyond the Die-In.
Please, spread the word and we hope to see you there!
