This discussion group sponsored by LWV Chicago’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion will explore the theme of “Racial Equity and Justice: Learning How to Move Forward.”
Meeting regularly on the 2nd Monday of every month, sessions will be centered around a text and will challenge your concept of race and racism. Participants are expected to have read some portion of the text, writings by the author, or reviews of the text prior to attending the discussion.
The texts we have chosen are as follows:
February 11th – White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide by Carol Anderson
March 11th – Waking Up White, and Finding Myself in the Story of Race, by Debbie Irving
April 8th – White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism by Robin DiAngelo
May 13th – Lifting As They Climbed: Mapping a History of Black Women on Chicago’s South Side by Mariame Kaba & Essence McDowell
June 10th – The Fire This Time: A New Generation Speaks about Race, by Jesmyn Ward
RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in any of these sessions. Separate invitations will be sent to each meeting.
