We will be joining the Legal Assistance Foundation (lafchicago.org) and our friends at Indivisible at the following times/dates/locations to phone bank for the open enrollment period:
Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6p-8p: Oak Park Main Library (Computer Classroom)
Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 6p-8p: Oak Park Main Library (Community Engagement Space)
Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 6p-8p: Oak Park Main Library (Computer Classroom)
Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 6p-8p: DPOP Office (6941-A W North Ave, Oak Park, IL 60302)
During this phone bank you will have the chance to connect with a targeted group of LAF’s clients to remind them about the enrollment period, and to direct them to the healthcare.gov website or make an appointment for them with a Certified Application Counselor (CAC). Those appointments will help people speak to a counselor about how to apply for insurance.
What you will need:
Your cell phone
A laptop or tablet
If you don’t have a laptop or tablet, don’t worry! You can still make phone calls!
You are welcome to attend all or part of the phone bank sessions!
WHY IS THIS OUTREACH IMPORTANT?
As many of you know, the current administration has tried to sabotage the ACA in multiple ways, including making it more difficult for people to sign up for health insurance in the following ways:
1. Shortening the open enrollment period from 3 months to just six weeks!
2. Enforcing “downtimes” for maintenance of the healthcare.gov website every Sunday (except the last Sunday of the open enrollment period) from 12am to 12pm.
3. Cutting back significantly on advertisements and outreach efforts to remind Americans about the enrollment period.
This is why we need everyone to spread the word! The last day to sign up or make changes to your insurance from the marketplace is December 15. We have three more weeks to spread the word!
